“The digital twin will change the current concept of the production line.”
What does it mean for CTAG to participate in a project like FISTERRA, a public-private collaboration?
It is both a major challenge and an opportunity that allows for the transfer of know-how between the energy sector and the automotive sector. CTAG aims to contribute its expertise in process development and the concepts of an automated factory, as is the case in the automotive industry, both for vehicle manufacturers and their suppliers.
How will CTAG apply its automotive experience to a completely different sector like maritime transport?
CTAG has proven experience in transferring its automotive expertise to other sectors (naval, aerospace, fishing…). In this case, it’s a new opportunity to generate synergies that improve the competitiveness of the Galician industry.
What challenges still exist in the development of digital twins, and how can we overcome these barriers?
The digital twin is still viewed as a technology far removed from the current needs of industry. In recent years, we’ve worked on designing processes accompanied by simulations that allow us to reduce conceptual errors. This results in cost savings for projects, which directly improves the return on investment in new products.
Although the digital twin may seem distant right now, it will eventually prevail because it will allow people to make better decisions in the face of contingencies in a more complex production environment, with shorter production runs and the need to recycle or remanufacture products. This will undoubtedly change the current concept of the production line and make the digital twin a key factor in this transformation.
