Interview with Sonia Quiroga Fernández, head of SmartFactories, Cybersecurity and Quantum Computing Area at CTAG

“The basic pillar is to put the end user at the center of the design.”

How is the digital twin contributing to the development of the converter and what advantages does it bring to the production phase?

Through this technology it is possible to test different scenarios and conditions with different parameters to optimize the production process before its physical implementation. In the production phase, the system can capture and cross-reference data in real time from different areas, such as production, quality, traceability or maintenance. Automatically, it can directly revert these results to the factory for a much more agile adaptation to changes or drifts that occur in the conditions. For example, it would detect an increase in voltage at one point and trigger a notification to maintenance.

What is the implementation of augmented reality in manufacturing processes and what benefits does it offer?

It consists of superimposing virtual elements on reality to provide assistance to the person performing a job. For example, during a verification of product quality, process operating ranges or maintenance, with the help of augmented reality mobile devices, operators are guided step by step showing on the real world information and virtual elements that assist operators in each of their tasks.

These systems also allow quick access to equipment documentation, maintenance history, or even to make records of operating times, results, comments on each of the steps or tasks performed.

What lessons have you learned from the experience with other similar projects and how have you applied them in Fisterra?

CTAG has developed projects with different use cases in different productive sectors, from which we extracted lessons such as eliminating visual noise or selecting the correct physical device in a safe immersive environment. The return on experience of these projects that we have applied in Fisterra revolves around a basic pillar: putting the end user, the operator, at the center of the design and development of the system. In this way we will create efficient tools that have an impact on the best manufacturing performance.
