Interview with Jesús Doval, Professor of Electronic Technology at the University of Vigo

“Projects like this serve as a tool to connect research activity with society.”

What does it mean for UVigo to participate in a project like this?

It is a core activity of UVigo, as one of the main objectives of the institution is collaboration with companies and the transfer of R&D&I capabilities and results to the socioeconomic environment.

What lessons have been learned from similar projects in which UVigo has participated?

In each case, different lessons and results are obtained, but one of the most important aspects of these types of projects is that they serve as a tool to connect the research activity generated at UVigo with society.

How are these research groups at UVigo nurtured and improved?

From a human perspective, the research groups are mainly nurtured by graduates from UVigo’s programs. From an economic standpoint, we secure funding from both public and private sources.

What do research groups, like the one involved in the Fisterra project, contribute to companies?

The groups support the company in project development. First, they provide previously generated knowledge, a result of their research and technology transfer activities. Secondly, they have the ability to develop new knowledge throughout the execution of the program.
