Interview with Carmen Fernández, Head of the Advanced Factories & Circular Economy Department. Management and Digital Manufacturing at CTAG:

"We lead one of the leading groups in Europe for developing strategies related to the digital twin."

What does it mean for CTAG to participate in projects like Fisterra?

We are particularly motivated to participate in the development of an innovative converter like this, which will be an important first step in reducing pollution in port environments.

The energy sector currently plays a key role, especially in the use and optimization of sustainable resources. Furthermore, sharing our knowledge, generating synergies with other sectors, and co-creating joint solutions are fundamental elements of any collaborative project.

What motivates you most professionally and personally about Fisterra?

In the specific case of Fisterra, it is allowing us to apply the knowledge acquired over years in the development of virtual twins to new manufacturing areas. This is helping us take a step further: moving from the virtual twin to the digital twin.

Thanks to the use of artificial intelligence, this digital twin will be able to integrate and analyze data from both simulation and the real environment, facilitating more agile and efficient decision-making, with the goal of optimizing industrial processes.

What are CTAG's manufacturing goals for the coming years?

From the Manufacturing and Digital Transformation Department, we are working to promote the short-term implementation of the digital twin in organizations. We do this from within, leading the Digital Twin Working Group of ADRA (The AI, Data and Robotics Association), one of the leading groups in Europe for the development of digital twin strategies.

Our goal is to contribute to the development of an ecosystem that accelerates the integration of artificial intelligence into production systems, facilitating more efficient decision-making, reducing waste, and optimizing productivity.

From the Digital Transformation area, we are also working to define and develop new, smarter, more connected, and sustainable manufacturing processes, using technologies such as Big Data, 5G solutions, IoT devices, exoskeletons, and advanced robotics.

What programs are you currently working on within the Manufacturing line?

We seek active collaboration at all levels with the industrial ecosystem, which includes European organizations, universities, startups, and industries. The goal is to accelerate the incorporation of innovative and disruptive technologies into the sector. The development of this ecosystem facilitates the transfer of new technologies, developed by both CTAG and startups, directly to factories.
